The sun is setting; the express ways are becoming bare; the cars are getting customized.

It's time.

Later this month, Genki will be releasing their first title in nearly 20 years and I am as excited as I was when I picked up Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift 2 all of the way back in 2005! Yes, back when you could walk into Circuit City and buy new games on release day without waiting in a crazy line.
If you are not familiar with TXR, it was a game on the PS2 with four street race versions and two drift versions. In these games you would challenge, and be challenged, to race on the highways of Japan until you had the fastest car in Tokyo! TXR was also groundbreaking in the amount of customization you could do to the cars. It was not just about making them faster, but also having them look cool! They had an awesome selection of bodykits, wings, and wheels light mods. You name it they had it.
In the new release it looks like they have licensing from most popular Japanese brands like Toyota, Nissan etc. The setting for the racing will be on the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo.

From what I have seen so far it looks like Genki has not gone too far and game play will be rather simple: see a car, race the car! I hope they keep the cool teams that you have to beat from the classic games. I will take down Wonder Slide again! There is nothing worse than a remake of a good game that is hard to play and has complicated story lines (Need for Speed Underground I'm looking at you) According to Steam, it will be released on January 23rd on PC only, they do plan on to release in May 2025 for PlayStation and Xbox. I have never gammed on PC, but I may have to order a controller and create a Steam account so I can be the best hashiriya around.
