Luke's 2002 Subaru WRX

Can you tell me a little about your Subaru? And how long have you had it?

It's a 2002 WRX that I've owned since 2007. It doesn't have very many original parts left on it. On the third engine and second transmission. It's sitting on rally suspension and it has a 6 point welded in roll bar by OppoMoto. Currently making STI power levels.

What types of events do you like doing best?

Anything on a frozen lake, and "test and tune" type events to maximize seat time. Otherwise any events with the least amount of traction get my attention.

Can you tell me a little about the RallyX and Winter AutoX events?

Road America was a winter autocross, though I did RallyX events in that area with StateLine Rallycross for a couple years. These events were very unlike the SCCA RallyX events as they used hard obstacles instead of cones. You could hit a tree, roll your car on a berm, or hit the metal marker signs destroying a bumper, fender and whatever other damage it could do. Due to the nature of these events a lot of Rally America drivers participated in them to test and tune for their events.

The Road America winter autocross events were fun, but I had to stop going as the events had no snow and as any car guy knows it's hard to beat a Miata with a WRX in an autocross (I did manage that on occasion in 2015, BFG Rivals are pretty clutch). I won the 2014 Road America Winter Autocross championship and still have yet to be beaten there in the snow. If you get a chance to race on the Road America go-kart track with its 98 feet of elevation change, I would highly recommend it.

Your car has had a ton of liveries. Which one is your favorite?

I've spent more time peeling stickers off my WRX than most people spend working on their project cars in total. My favorite livery was 'the Chive' one I had on it for a while. It also spent years wearing Polar Run liveries, winning the 2016 Polar Run. One of the other cooler looking liveries on it was the Team ARWA livery Strait Design did for me. And one fixture that hasn't changed since the Chive livery is that I've had Bill Fucking Murray on my roof.

Do you have any plans for the car?

Replace what I break. Maybe some more rust prevention, since it's getting pretty bad.

Any plans for the 2021 season?

Past driving on the ice, I have zero plans for the 2021 season. You'll probably find the car at DCTC track once or twice otherwise it'll be tucked away in my garage waiting for it to snow again. You will be able to find me on one of my custom Yamaha Zuma 125s once the weather is nice enough.
